Lil Wayne, larger than life hip-hop icon, came from humble beginnings in New Orleans to building a hip-hop empire.  Considered by many to be the "best rapper alive", Wayne has been dominating the rap music world for more than half a decade. Coming from the crime and poverty stricken Hollygrove neighborhood in New Orleans, Wayne felt the best way to express himself was by writing rhymes. He relentlessly pursued the opportunity to work with the New Orleans local legends of Cash Money Records. Starting his career at the meager age of 11, Wayne was taken under the wing of rapper, hip-hop entrepreneur and Cash Money Records owner "Birdman" AKA "Baby" Bryan Williams.

At age 14, Wayne was matched up with Juvenille, B.G. and Young Turk to form the rap group, the Hot Boys.  Releasing their debut album in 1997, Get it How U Live!, the Hot Boys became a commercial success.  Wayne laucned his solo career in 1999 with "Tha Block is Hot", featuring the hit single title track.  The album went on to go double platinum, however, at the time, Wayne was still unknown to much of America due to his hardcore rhymes and Cash Money's rough, street sound.

After the disassembling of the Hot Boys in 2001 and Juvenille's parting from the label, Wayne released his 2002 album 500 Degreez (An answer to Juvenille's 400 Degreez), showing his loyalty to Cash Money Records.  The album went gold as Lil Wayne took on the responsibilty of making sure Cash Money Records remained successful.

Wayne, proving himself as a respectable MC and not just a "Hot Boy", showcased his skills in the critically acclaimed mixtapes "Da Drought" and "Da Drought 2" in 2003-2004. The mixtapes drummed up much anticipation for his 2004 album "Tha Carter"  in which he showed significant growth as an artist. He went on to release a slew of mixtapes over the next year, providing content for his growing fanbase. This caused the release of "Tha Carter 2" in 2005 to be a major event in the hip hop community, selling over a quarter million copies in it's first week.

Lil Wayne continued to flood the underground with mixtapes, including "Dedication 2" and "Drought 3", while acheiving a cult like following of fans who considered him to be a lyrical genius. With huge anticipation from the music world, Wayne released "Tha Carter 3" in June 2008, selling over 1 million copies in it's first week.  The album earned 4 Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album. It was also the highest selling album in 2008 and has since gone triple platinum.

Wayne continued to pump out music after the release of "The Carter 3." Considered a "workaholic", Wayne released a Rap/Rock fusion album titled "Rebirth", his 7th studio LP,  the album, "I Am Not a Human Being", as well as 2 official mixtapes, "Dedication 3" and "No Ceilings."

In March 2010, Wayne was sentanced to serve one-year in prison at Riker's Island on weapons charges. Since being released in November 2010, Wayne has announced his North American tour, "I Am Still Music" with Nikki Minaj and Travis Barker.
