Chelsea Handler

Biography
Chelsea Handler was born on February 25, 1975 in Livingston, New Jersey. The youngest of six siblings, Chelsea was raised by a Jewish father and a Mormon mother. As a teen, she competed in the Miss New Jersey pageant. At 19 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an actress and worked as a waitress while auditioning for roles. After a DUI arrest at the age of 21, Chelsea had her first stand up gig unexpectedly when she had to tell her arrest story to a group of other offenders in a post-DUI class. She realized at that point that her own life stories were worth sharing and that she was meant to make people laugh.

Comedy, Television, & Books
Chelsea's first job was at L.A.'s Improv comedy club where she was hired to do stand up after sending in a tape of herself telling stories about her waitressing exploits. Her big break came when she landed a job as a regular on Oxygen's Girls Behaving Badly series. Other early television credits included appearances on series such as My Wife and Kids and The Bernie Mac Show. Chelsea was also a correspondent for The Tonight Show.

In 2006, Chelsea Handler began starring in the E! Network's The Chelsea Handler Show, a skit comedy series that was later replaced with Chelsea Lately. Chelsea Lately, Handler's late-night talk show, is one of the E! network's top rated programs. The widely successful television show features a roundtable with up-and-coming comedians as well as celebrity guest interviews. The show focuses on entertainment news and pop culture developments.

Handler took her act nationwide when she toured across the U.S. as part of the "Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour". Televised performances have been feature on VH1, Comedy Central, and HBO. In 2010, Chelsea Handler became the second woman to host the MTV Video Music Awards.

Chelsea has written three New York Times best-selling books entitled "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands", "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea", and "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang". Her latest book, "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang", was released on March 9, 2010. In March the best-selling author began a 21-city nationwide tour sponsored by Belvedere Vodka in order to promote the book. Live Nation added an additional 125 shows to the Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang tour when tickets sold out immediately. The tour is currently scheduled for shows up until January in Maryland, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio, and many more cities.
